I recently just got back from Alaska and that is hands down one of the coolest states we have. It's raw, it's rugged and completely pure. We traveled to a lot of local places and did a lot of touristy things. I don't think it mattered what I was going to be doing there, I was in fucking Alaska. The place I have been dreaming about for years, but only a Several miles away from any sort of big mountain riding for me. Not being in Haines or close to that didn't matter, it's the holy grail state of skiing and snowboarding.
We traveled down to the coast to do a little fishing... gather some clams, to much work for one little clam. But at the end of the day, the work was well worth it and the food was damn delicious. Our dinner for the first night, fresh clams caught earlier that day by yours truly and halibut caught by my brother and his girlfriend. The ladies cleaned and prepared dinner while Chef Bro, aka my brother, cooked everything up for us. I'd say, a Great way to start out the trip.
We hit all the hot spots and did a lot of traveling on the Seward highway, which is highly dangerous at times. Stopping to look at belugas or mountain goats with the rest of the crowd is not recommended for those new to the area. Although seeing those not behind a 8" slab of glass is way rad. It's highly dangerous with tourists running across the streets and dodging semis plowing through the roads to get any shot they can of the crazy goats standing on cliff edges straight above you. I snapped some great shots...
The Fjords National park is a destination I must go to in the winter. Seeing how big a glacier can really be in person is unbelievable. But, seeing that glacier from the top covered in snow, EPIC! Not to mention there will not be any mosquitoes to attack me. Also taking a Fjords boat tour is amazing. Not only do you get to completely take Alaska in on a boat, but you get to see some really great sights. We left Seward and cruised through Resurrection Bay and into the Gulf of Alaska and along the way we came across sea lions, mountain goats, puffins, porpoises, and humpback whales. I've never seen any of those in my life, and I got to see them living the way they do on a daily basis.
Our trip started to wind down and none of us wanted it to end so soon. We had to get back to the real life of paying bills and working a full time job. The shitty things in life, putting your hard earned money where you don't want to when it can easily go towards trips to AK again. Or possibly some in depth avalanche classes and some heli-boarding.
On our way to Anchorage we stopped at Alyeska ski resort and took a tram up to the top. I had to go up more to see what this place was all about. So I left everybody behind and hiked to the tip top for some fresh air. I couldn't believe they still had some snow up there! With the snow, the chairlift, the views and mountains in the background made me miss my board back home. Alyeska has some super sick sidecountry and a pretty dope park. But all I could think about was strapping in and dropping the gnarliest lines of my life. I saw spines, and wind drifts everywhere, it's no wonder the hardest riders travel to AK. It's endless, and I wasn't even in the heart of big mountain riding. If that's what this area has to offer, I can't even imagine what REAL Alaska is all about.
I'll be back this upcoming season to shred the gnar and get dirtier than a hooker creeping the Toronto streets.

where have i been?

Finally flying to Anchorage

God bless America
Right before we pulled into the county of homer, we stopped here to get a few shots.

Arrrggghhh ye new board for 2010/2011

So I've had this done for some time now, but screwed up at sending my design in to be produced. I kept on tweaking things here and there, but had to stop. I started to get disappointed and adding too much. So this is the FINAL design, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Super stoked to ride this this year

All work and no play make Eric a dull boy All work and no play make Eric a dull boy All work and no play make Eric a dull boy All work and no play make Eric a dull boy

Nothing to do, nothing going on, no snow in Columbus. And I spent all my money on bills and Christmas gifts. All I want to do right now is snowboard, and snowboard all day long. I feel so lazy and tired from not doing anything. I feel so depressed and cooped up. Please get me out of my apartment and onto some snow. Any snow, man made, powder, ice or frost. I don't really care at this moment what or where it is. It's not fair all of my friends get to enjoy what I love the most, and some could care less about winter or snow. I guess this is me just complaining because I'm captured inside my own home that seems to be getting smaller and smaller by the day.

Turkey Day

Drove up north to Michigan for Thanksgiving with good weather. It was awesome to hang out and catch up with my family. Dinner was great and as always, I over ate! It's always worth it though and the food is never bad. I brought my snowboard and gear up with me hoping for any chance to ride.... no snow anywhere... Nubs and other resorts were making snow and opening the day I leave. Typical scenario. But I didn't expect a snowstorm to come rolling in the night I'm leaving aaand the day of. So not only did I not get to snowboard but I'm going home with tons of cookies and a fake Christmas tree.
